The Lynskeys have been designing, developing and building titanium frames for over 26 years, and are widely considered the most prominent family in the field of titanium.
In 1962, the father of the family, William, set up a metal production firm in Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA. His clients at the time included the medical and aerospace industries. By the mid nineteen eighties, all of his children had joined the family business. David was the first member of the family to catch the ‘bike bug’, whereupon he decided to build his own frame. And frame building was to remain very much a hobby for the next few years, intended solely for friends and local racers. However, it soon became clear that titanium was the future in the world of cycling, and the Lynskey family therefore decided to devote the business to the production of titanium bicycle frames. Now, a quarter of a century down the line, Lynskey-built bikes have won national and world titles in almost every category of competition.
Nowadays, all eight (+1!) members of the Lynskey family are involved full-time in every aspect of the business. Lynskey Performance Designs also intends to continue to focus entirely on building the most high-grade frames, which excel in terms of quality and performance and are designed to provide complete user satisfaction every time.
About Bike Basics
Bikes have played a dominant role in Gerrit Gaastra’s life ever since he was a child. His great grandfather – who established the Batavus brand – was a cyclist in heart and soul. Gerrit’s father, Andries, then went on to found Koga Miyata and develop it into a brand with a rock solid reputation. Gerrit is now part of the fourth generation to continue with what has truly become a family tradition, opting to set up his own bicycle firm with a view to realising the full potential of his own ideas.
Bike Basics founder, Gerrit Gaastra
Bike Basics GmbH was established after Gerrit had spent over a decade working as a product and trend developer for various employers in the international bicycle manufacturing sector. Bike Basics has been supplying extremely high-quality bikes bearing the brand name idworx since the year 2000. The brand’s highly demanding and strictly applied product philosophy has attracted a considerably large band of idworx bike enthusiasts. Furthermore, idworx trekking bikes are considered the benchmark throughout the Benelux countries and Germany. Gerrit nevertheless also remains active as a consultant through his secondary firm GG Concepts, which provides impetus to other firms operating in the bicycle manufacturing and supply sector.
Contact with Lynskey was initially established during the firm’s quest to find a new manufacturer for idworx' flagship product, the Easy TiRohler. The deceptively simple-looking frame of this model is nevertheless absolutely jam-packed with refined details, which make its production a highly complicated process. Having first carefully studied the drawings, the Lynskeys admitted that they had never previously come across such a complex frame. They nevertheless accepted the challenge of producing it, establishing themselves as a highly competent and ambitious partner.
From then on, it was just a matter of time before the two firms would forge a closer partnership. Given that Lynskey did not have an official dealer for the Benelux, Germany, Austria and Switzerland at the time, Bike Basics assumed this role as of the 2011 model year. In addition to Lynskey’s extensive and diverse range of models, the firm supplies two mountain bike frames specially adapted for the European market, in which Bike Basics’ expert touch and knowledge are clearly recognisable.
